Course Description and Format

Course Description:

The purpose of this class is to analyze and apply systematic strategies for the identification of instructional needs, the design of instructional models, and the selection and design of these models to meet educational and training goals in both K-12 education, and business and training. A sub-goal of this class is to investigate the implications of systematic instruction in general.

Students in this class will work as "design teams", building collaborative work environments, addressing the goals and requirements of this class. The teams will work together the following semester, producing the product they designed.

Course Objectives and Requirements

The "design team" will be expected to design an instructional design plan which will include the following elements:

  • problem statement
  • needs assessment with instruments
  • summary of needs assessment
  • learner profile
  • goal statements and objectives
  • sub-competency and task analysis for each objective
  • formative evaluation instruments
  • flow charts displaying systematic relationships
  • selection of delivery system
  • delivery form rationale
  • summative evaluation instruments
Note: the design project will be posted to a collaborative workspace (database) and reviewed as a read only document by the class

Grading:

Grades will be dependent upon participation, meeting project deadlines, and the final instructional design package. All of the activities in this class are collaborative. Individuals need to develop skills in working as teams towards common goals, using the Internet as a communication medium.

There will be" no" incomplete grades.
